Girl hospitalised after 18 shots of tequila during contest

A 17-year-old girl was hospitalised in Cordoba, Argentina with an alcoholic coma after taking 18 measures of tequila in a drinking competition. The girl became intoxicated in a discotheque where she and her classmates celebrated an end of year party.
Although she won the competition, shortly after she fainted and her mates took her to hospital where doctors refused to treat here. Doctors sent her back home saying that she just was drunk and would be fine in a few hours. Nevertheless, hours passed and she did not react, her mother called the emergency department and the doctors ordered to transfer the girl to the clinic immediately where she was hospitalised.
“She was saved by a miracle because she is young”, said Cristina Duarte, the teenager’s mother after her daughter was moved from intensive care to a common room of the clinic. And she added that the teenager had just realised what a serious situation she was in.
Secretary of Prevention of Drug Abuse in Cordoba, Sebastián García Díaz announced that a criminal complaint would be lodged against those responsible of selling alcohol to the minors who were partying that night.

Girl hospitalised after 18
She was young and probably didn't realize the risks she was exposing herself to by drinking so much and there might be a chance that those who were selling her the tequila shots were not aware of her age, but I could never understand a doctor who sends a clearly ill patient home as if alcohol intoxication is not a serious condition. People can die because of it and they should have known better, they should have treated her and make sure she attends some alcohol treatment rehab as soon she got better.
Alcohol poisoning
Good tequila --or good mezcal-- is supposed to deliver almost no hangover. But 17 teqilas are too much. Alcohol is, of the common drugs, the deadliest. An old friend died 10 days ago inside the 1975 Rambler he borrowed as living quarters in midtown Mexico City, surrounded by bottles of the cheapest tequila and punctured cans used for inhaling crack. The crack intensified his habit and isolation; the alcohol finished with his damaged liver.
