US Doctor Phil Johnson discusses the transmission of HIV and other blood-borne viruses through shared needles and syringes.

The provision of needle-exchange services has been shown to reduce the transmission of HIV/AIDS. It is one of the most well-known of the techniques known as "harm reduction", and it is important that governments make such services available to their citizens to help prevent the spread of HIV.

Charlie Johnson's Testimonial: Living with HIV

This is the personal story of Charlie Johnson, told to camera. Charlie has been HIV positive for 14 years; he is a former injecting drug user whose life and health fell apart. He has since stopped using drugs, is taking anti-retroviral treatment and working in various ways to help the community of people living with HIV/AIDS.

Who would have thought that getting off the streets and beating your habit could be so straightforward? It only takes thirty seconds.

Illicit drug use in China has risen rapidly since the late 1980s. The number of registered drug users increased from 70,000 in 1990 to more than 1 million by the end of 2005. For this reason China began the methadone maintenance treatment program for controlling the spread of HIV/AIDS that had became a major problem in most of the Chinese provinces.
