Julia Gillard: Nice People Take Drugs

This card is one of a deck produced by Release to highlight politicians’ hypocrisy towards drug use.
Julia Gillard became the new Australian Prime Minister on the 24th of June 2010.
Along with many other Australian politicians she has admitted to illicit drug use. She claimed that she had smoked cannabis while at university but did not like it. She also implied that drug use was commonplace in university and that most Australians did have access to illicit drugs. "I think many Australian adults would be able to make the same statement, so I don't think it matters one way or the other."
This highlights the ineffectiveness of prohibition laws as despite the great cost and high incarceration rate for non-violent crimes, illicit drugs are still freely available.
