Living with an ex alcoholic.

I am so proud of the person I live with as they’re a recovering alcoholic. It has taught me so much having this person around. He used to have to have a drink inside him in order to feel confident when communicating and every chance he got to drink he was drinking.

            Nowadays he doesn’t drink a drop. He has been clean for  three years and has learnt to be confident and use his confidence without drink. He has an amazing character that shines and that he probably didn’t know he had. We do have problems though as I like a drink and as you can imagine this causes conflict.

            I try to be as sensitive as I can towards him but sometimes it feels as though I am walking on eggshells. His temper can be temperamental but the good he has in him still shines through. My temper would be temperamental if I had packed up the one thing I loved and was struggling everyday after. I try and look at things from his point of view instead of my own and we talk and debate an awful lot.

            I really admire his strength and am so grateful that he has packed up drink for my sake and his!
