Marijuana’s impact on driving has for a long time been under researched, there is of course ample evidence about the negative impact of drinking and driving but when it comes to marijuana there seems to be a lack of research.

One article for instance claimed that by smoking marijuana your chances of having an accident increases by double or even triple. The study that the article was based on took into accounts all accidents where THC was found in the blood of the driver that includes those who have taken both alcohol and marijuana.

A new drug policy in Basque Country

Basque Country parliament proposes an amendment to the Addiction Law during the presentation of the VI Addictions Plan 2011-2015.  The proposal to be discussed next year would allow over-18 to cultivate, sale and consume of hashish and marijuana. The bill includes measures for prevention and treatment drug “addiction” and other addictions such as gambling and new technologies.

Czech Republic to remove marijuana from banned list

The Czech Republic is planning to take Marijuana off the banned substance list and onto the list of drugs which can be prescribed by a doctor. More and more Czechs are apparently growing marijuana and combined with the fact that there is growing evidence that marijuana is medically useful in a whole host of diseases it seems that the Czech Republic government has decided that’s it is better off the banned substance list.

Marijuana dispensaries don’t increase crime

A new study by the RAND Corporation indicates that rather than marijuana dispensaries increasing crime, their presence is more likely to help substantially decrease all types of crime. The study found that with the closure of marijuana dispensaries in Los Angeles that all types of crime increased within the local area with a 150% increase in assaults in a 0.3 mile radius of the closed marijuana dispensary.

Medical Marijuana State VS Federal Law

Medical marijuana is legal in 16 states in America with some revolving round the user growing his or her own crop whilst others allow marijuana dispensaries. These dispensaries are having a hard time due to a conflict between federal law and state law creating a grey area. This has led to banks which have accounts nationwide being unsure and unwilling to allow marijuana dispensaries to even have a checking account.

Canadian study to examine Marijuana Driving link

A study is to take place in Canada by the University of Victoria’s Centre for Addiction Research B.C (CARBC) and will investigate whether there is firstly a link between marijuana and car crashes but secondly what the risk of impairment is whilst driving at various levels of smoking pot.

Bernard Rappaz enters 76th day of hunger strike over Swiss Marijuana laws

Esther Kalbermatten-Waeber at the Valais cantonal court has rejected the appeal of Bernard Rappaz, the Swiss hemp activist and marijuana farmer currently serving 5 years in prison, for his sentence to be overturned. He is protesting by going on a hunger strike, so far lasting 76 days.

California legalising marijuana seems crazy but it may be for a good cause

California is considering legalizing marijuana as one of the way to help reduce drug trafficker’s revenues and violence in Mexico. The authorities are considering legalising marijuana in November 2010 and they will vote on the proposition termed as the Regulate, Control and Cannabis Act 2010.  If marijuana is legalised in November, California will be the first state in the USA.

Australian gamer dies of marijuana overdose

Geelong: A university student has died at his parent’s home of an apparent marijuana overdose.  

This is the first case like this recorded in Australia and will surely spark huge concern about the health of the nation’s youth. 

Jonathan Grundy was an exemplary student and talented footie player according to his uncle, Peter Pollard.

“He was a great kid, I am surprised he got mixed up with drugs, I reckon it was all those lefty pinko artist types he met at university in Melbourne, we are all happy with a stubby in Geelong”
