Russia and drugs
According to State Drug Control Service there are from 3 to 6 millions of DUs in Russia, that are primarily injective DUs. An epidemics of HIV/AIDS and HCV continue to grow among injecting drug users. Currently, according to WHO, there are more than a million people living with HIV.
The rights of drug users to health, effective treatment and no discrimination constantly violated by the Services for Narcotics Control, Ministry of Health and the police. All attempts of several national and international organizations to advocate for more modern and efficient methods of drug treatment and HIV, hematites and drug overdoses prevention, were not successful. The Russian government continues to desperately resist the use of opioid substitution treatment and the massive introduction of harm reduction programs!
