The Gadejuristen-The Danish Street Lawyers
The video shows the important work of the Gadjuristen. They are street lawyers who give assistance to drug users and disadvantaged people. They provide a legal and social aid to drug users on the street. These people are often forced to live on the street in conditions of danger and degradation. These street lawyers also provide injection equipment and pocket size cards with information about drugs and harm reduction.
These street lawyers are fighting for human rights of drug users. The main right is the possibility for a heroin addict to inject himself in safe conditions, in order to safeguard his health. In Vancouver "iniection rooms" already exist and the hope of the street lawyers is to implement them in Denmark too.
The relationship between drugs and human rights is often controversial, but permitting to drug users to reduce risks to their lives is a step of fundamental relevance in every state that wants protect their citizens.
