Some 40 years ago, in a double blind experiment under Timothy Leary's supervision, it was shown that psychedelic chemicals can induce genuine mystical experiences.

In 2006, a new study conducted by researchers at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Medical School replicated the results: In a double blind study, those administered the active ingredient found in magic mushrooms had profound religious experiences.
