New Zealand Misuse of Drugs Act Review

Ross Bell (NZ Drug Foundation Executive Director) on drug law reform. He says that while our thinking and our knowledge has changed since New Zealand drug law was introduced in 1975, our response hasn't. We now have the opportunity to admit that we have a drug problem, and to take a more grown up approach in treating it as a health issue. He suggests looking at what health & social services, intervention and policy changes can be put in place to more effectively deal with the problem. He also points out that drug problems are social and health issues, and therefore it's not realistic to expect criminal justice to be the means of dealing with them.
